BOSTON – The Springfield Falcons’ high-scoring offense remained hot on Nov. 4, but the Falcons couldn’t continue their winning streak through the weekend.
A three-goal second period powered the Falcons past the Portland Pirates for a 6-1 victory on Nov. 4.
The early stages of the first period were scoreless as Falcons goaltender Louis Domingue preventing several Portland offensive chances. The Falcons eventually took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Craig Cunningham.
With 4:44 left in the first period, the Falcons captain scored his third of the season assisted by Greg Carey and Steven Delisle. Despite trailing through one period, the Pirates outshot the Falcons 11-6 in the period.
The Falcons began a three-goal second period with a tally from Laurent Dauphin at 7:42. The rookie’s goal was assisted by Phil Lane.
Springfield’s offense didn’t stop with a goal from Jordan Szwarz with 4:20 left in the period. His first of the season was assisted by Alex Grant and Philip Samuelsson.
The 3-0 score forced Portland to pull goaltender Mike McKenna in favor of Sam Brittain. With just under a minute, Lucas Lessio was able to convert on the power play to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. His third of the season was assisted by Szwarz and Henrik Samuelsson.
Chase Balisy scored his second of the season to break the scoreless drought for Portland and bring the game to a 4-1 score. Balisy’s goal was scored 6:41 into the third period and assisted by Rob Flick and Sena Alcolatse. Springfield quickly responded with another goal from Cunningham that was assisted by Philip Samuelsson and Grant.
With 5:11 left in regulation, Jeffrey would score his fifth of the season on the power play to give the Falcons a 6-1 victory over the Pirates. Cunningham and Grant assisted on the goal to complete their three-point nights.
McKenna took the loss with 12 saves on 15 shots. Brittain made eight stops on 11 shots. Domingue, the game’s first star, made 34 saves on 35 shots.
The Falcons surrendered three goals in the third period as they fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Nov. 7.
The first period created several scoring chances but concluded scoreless. The Falcons closed the period with a five-on-three power play for 53 seconds. Sound Tigers goaltender Stephon Williams stopped all scoring chances to keep the game scoreless.
The scoreless deadlock continued in the second between the Falcons and the Sound Tigers.
Tyler Beskorowany saw 18 shots in the stanza before allowing a goal from Sebastian Collberg with 1:09 left. The forward scored his first of the year beating Beskorowany under his arm with assists credited to Matt Carkner and Bracken Kearns.
The Sound Tigers posted three goals in the third that began 5:21 into the period with a tally from Kearns. His eighth of the season was assisted by Ryan Pulock and Joe Whitney. Alan Quine gave the Sound Tigers a 3-0 lead with his fifth of the season scored at 14:04. Adam Pelech and Ryan Strome assisted on the goal.
Justin Vaive completed the scoring with a breakaway goal for his fourth of the season with 33 seconds left. The goal was assisted by James Wright.
Williams improved to 5-2-0 with his first professional shutout on 26 saves. Beskorowany falls to 0-2-0 stopping 31 shots.
The Falcons return home Nov. 13 to host the Utica Comets for the first time in history. The game begins at 7 p.m. and starts a three-game weekend that concludes on Nov. 15 against the Albany Devils at the MassMutual Center.
The contest on Nov. 15 is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
