Forsberg called up in flurry of moves involving Falcons

SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Falcons made several moves this week.

On Oct. 19, the Columbus Blue Jackets recalled goaltender Anton Forsberg.

Forsberg, 21, has gone 1-2-0 with a 2.36 goals-against average and .921 save percentage in three games with Springfield this season, stopping 82-of-89 shots faced.

He is 4-2-0 with a 1.69 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in seven career AHL games since making his North American professional debut with the Falcons late in the 2013-14 season.

The following day, Director of Hockey Operations Bruce Landon announced the Falcons recalled goaltender Scott Munroe from the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL.

Munroe, 32, has appeared in one game with the Wings this season, recording a 2.00 goals-against average and .882 save percentage, turning away 15 of 17 shots in an Oct. 18 victory against the Elmira Jackals.

The 5-foot-10, 176-pound goaltender spent the 2013-14 season with the Vaxjo Lakers of the Swedish Hockey League.

In 36 regular season games, Munroe accumulated a 19-16-0 record and posted three shutouts to go along with a 2.06 goals-against average and .912 save percentage. The Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan native has appeared in a career total of 243 American Hockey League regular season contests, amassing a 114-90-14 record with 19 shutouts.

On Oct. 21, the Falcons reassigned forward Riley Wetmore to the Kalamazoo Wings and signed defenseman Mike DiPaolo to a one-year American Hockey League contract.

Wetmore, 25, has appeared in one game with the Falcons this season. He split the 2013-14 season between the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League and Stockton Thunder of the ECHL.

The 6-foot, 195-pound forward skated in 38 contests with the Sound Tigers, earning 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists), and 15 with the Thunder, picking up 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists).

Wetmore has appeared in a career total of 42 AHL games, accumulating 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists). During a four year career at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, the Swanton, VT, native totaled 111 points (50 goals, 61 assists) over 152 games. Wetmore started his hockey career in the Eastern Junior Hockey League, amassing 165 points (63 goals, 102 assists) in 139 appearances with the Green Mountain Glades.

DiPaolo, 20, split the 2013-14 season with the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound defenseman earned 4 points (4 assists) and racked up 165 penalty minutes in 51 appearances with the Islanders.

Over three seasons with the Sting, the Brantford, Ontario, native skated in 64 games and registered one goal along with 75 penalty minutes. DiPaolo started his career in the Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Burlington Cougars, collecting four points (4 assists) in 22 appearances.

The Springfield Falcons travel to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Oct. 24 before returning to the MassMutual Center to face the Norfolk Admirals on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. and the Syracuse Crunch on Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.
