Golden Bear Golf Classic set for Sept. 21

Date: 8/10/2015

SPRINGFIELD – Friends of the Western New England University Athletics Family, be sure to mark your calendars for the 17th annual Western New England Golf Classic, presented by Aramark, Bob Carnevale ‘68, Hampden Engineering Corporation and Rocky's Ace Hardware.

The popular fundraising event is a scramble format that will be hosted again at the Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, Sept. 21, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start, Western New England director of athletics Michael Theulen announced.

The cost is $175 and includes lunch, cocktail reception and hors d'oeuvres after the tournament, greens fees on a championship course, golf carts, access to beautiful facilities, practice greens and driving range.

Prizes will be awarded for low gross and low net winners, closest to the pin, straightest drive and longest drive. Mulligan tickets, raffle, silent auction and a putting contest are some of the activities on tap.

The proceeds benefit Golden Bear student-athletes as the athletics program at Western New England is an integral part of the institution and overall development of the student-athlete. More than 400 students compete in 19 varsity sports and two non-NCAA programs. In addition, the University offers an intramural program that reaches the entire campus community.

In 2014-15, the Golden Bears placed 169th in the Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) after posting their best spring season in eight years.

In addition, Western New England led the Commonwealth Coast Conference membership by collecting six of the league's 15 senior scholar-athlete of the year awards.
