Golf tourney benefits youth charities

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Falcons recently announced their 9th Annual Columbus Day Italian Open Golf Tournament.

Join the Falcons and staff for this charity golf/epicurean event held Oct. 9 at Crestview Country Club. The scramble format event tees off at 11 a.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Shriners Hospital for Children and the Springfield Sliders Sled Hockey Team.

Foursome and sponsorships are still available. Volunteers are also welcome. Contact Carole Appleton at the Falcons office for more information.

Come meet Head Coach Steve Stirling at Bertelli's Skate Shop on Oct. 5 from 5 to 6:30 p.m to kick Bertelli's Skate Shop Yout Hockey Equipment Scholarship Program. The Falcons and Bertelli's Skate Shop are teaming up with Easton Hockey to award one lucky youth hockey player in the area a hockey equipment scholarship worth $1,200. Youth hockey players between the ages of 7-14 can enter to win the hockey equipment scholarship for the 2007-08 season.

Monthly winners will be chosen to win $10 skate sharpening certificates with all winners automatically entered to win the Grand Prize.

Local residents may enter at Bertelli's Skate Shop at 726 Main Street, West Springfield or the Community Relations table at the Falcons home games.
