Graham’s monster game garners spot on NE-10 Honor Roll

MANSFIELD – American International College football’s junior wide receiver Evan Graham of Springfield landed on the Northeast-10 Week Two Football Honor Roll.

Graham made just three catches, but for 150 yards and two touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets picked up their first win of the season at home Saturday, defeating Southern Connecticut 44-13. Graham broke away from the Southern Connecticut secondary for two monster touchdowns of 63 and 75 yards.

Evans honored by MASCAC

BUZZARDS BAY – Springfield’s Joshua Evans, a sophomore midfielder for the Worcester State University men’s soccer team, scored a goal in the Lancers only game of the week in a 3-1 setback to Trinity College to earn a spot on the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference honor roll.

Footit receives another honor roll nod

BUZZARDS BAY – Massachusetts Maritime Academy harrier Mara Footit of Wilbraham posted a 25th place individual finish in a field of 151 runners with time of 21:59 over the 5K layout in leading the Buccaneers to a ninth place team standing at the University of New England Invitational, earning a spot on the MASCAC weekly honor roll.

Taylor garners weekly award with game-winner

BUZZARDS BAY – Madison Taylor a freshman forward for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Women’s soccer team from Longmeadow, was honored with a spot on the MASCAC weekly honor roll after she netted the game-winning goal with 2:07 remaining in the Buccaneers’ 1-0 victory over SUNY-Maritime.

Winer pots tying goal in Bentley victory

WALTHAM – Leah Winer of Longmeadow banged in a rebound for the equalizer with just 59 seconds remaining in the first half as the Bentley University field hockey team opened its season with a 2-1 win over Assumption College on Sept. 10.

Mu’min scores in WSU loss

WESTFIELD – Legend Mu’min of Springfield scored the equalizer in the 48th minute for the Westfield State University men’s soccer team, but the Owls eventually fell 2-1 to Albertus Magnus College on Sept. 9.

Rackliffe is MASCAC women’s volleyball Player of the Week

BUZZARDS BAY – The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) named Framingham State university setter Alycia Rackliffe of Feeding Hills its women’s volleyball Player of the Week on Sept. 14.

Rackliffe averaged 14.33 kills and 2.33 blocks with a .427 hitting percentage in a 2-1 week for the Rams. She tallied 17 kills and five blocks in the 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine and 12 kills and a block with a .611 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win against Newbury College.

Powell named ECAC Rookie of the Week

Wheelock College’s Gina Powell of Granby was named ECAC women’s cross country Rookie of the Week on Sept. 10.

At the Mountaineer Cross Country Invitational hosted by Southern Vermont College, Powell finished first overall with a time of 21:03, while also setting a Wheelock program record time for the 5K. Powell’s first place finish helped Wheelock secure a third place team finish at the Mountaineer Invitational.

Labrie, Cummings hook up for score in WNE draw

WENHAM – Granby’s Brooke Labrie scored her second goal of 2015 on a pass from classmate Katelyn Cummings of Feeding Hills for a 1-0 advantage in the Western New England University women’s soccer team’s 2-2 tie with Gordon on Sept. 12.

Monahan places 44th at Saratoga Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Ashley Monahan of Springfield finished 44th with a time of 19:10.5 at the Saratoga Invitational Cross Country meet hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Saratoga Spa State Park on Sept 12.

The Owls placed 15th among the 21 competing teams with 376 points.
