| SPRINGFIELD Five skaters representing the Little Sun Valley Skating Club based in Springfield found themselves on the medals podium at the recent Snowflake Open figure skating competition. The event was sponsored by the Christmas Brook Figure Skating Club and was held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Arena in North Adams on Dec. 8. Brianna Brennan of Holyoke captured gold medals in both freestyle 1 compulsory moves and freestyle 1 program. Sarah Varanka of Hampden skated her way to the gold medal in preliminary B freestyle. Longmeadow's Maddie Cohen received bronze medals for both freestyle 1 compulsory moves and freestyle 1 program. Jenna Langevin of Springfield won the gold medal for freestyle 3 - 4 compulsory moves and the bronze medal for freestyle 3 - 4 program. Ludlow's Juliette Zienlinksi captured the gold medal for freestyle 3 - 4 program and silver medals for freestyle 3 - 4 compulsory moves, beginner interpretive program and beginner showcase. Congratulations go out to all of the participants for a job well done. The Little Sun Valley Skating Club offers affordable and fun programs in basic skills group lessons, group ice dance, power skating and moves in the field and freestyle sessions are also available.
