Local skaters prepare for Worlds in Marlboro

Sixteen local figure skaters are practicing hard and sharpening their skills because they will soon be competing at the ISI World Recreational Team Championships in Marlboro. The New England Sports Center, a five-rink state of the art facility, will host the event July 24-30. The skaters, who are all members of the Little Sun Valley Skating Club in Springfield will be representing Symmetrical Skating School in Norwich, Connecticut.

The skaters who are all members of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI), are Lucia Montalvo of Chicopee; Ann Rokhkind and Heather Morton of East Longmeadow; Jennifer Szafir of Easthampton; Georgina Oliveira nd Christine Dobiecki of Ludlow; Deidre Tocci of South Hadley; Brittani Morgan, Shelby Morissette, Elizabeth Duffy and Marissa Tetreault of Springfield; Tylar Anne Suckau of West Springfield; Ashley Lynn Assad, Ericka Larssen and Kristyna Bronner of Wilbraham; and Kevin Lombardo of Broad Brook, Connecticut.

The competition, which will welcome skaters from all over the world, is a yearly event. The last time that ISI Worlds came to Massachusetts was in 2002. Events included in this competition range from freestyle, footwork, artistic, dance, compulsory moves, as well as spotlight.
