Longmeadow legend calls it a career

The New England Mutiny announces that their all-time scoring leader, Rachel LeDuc of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, has retired. The announcement signifies the end of one of the most storied athletes in western Massachusetts' history.

"There is no other athlete in western Massachusetts that has impacted their sport like Rachel LeDuc has for women's soccer in this area," stated team owner Joe Ferrara.

"On a personal level, her loyalty, commitment and dedication to me and this organization will never be forgotten; as a result, no Mutiny player will ever wear the number 6 again."

As a testimony to arguably the best female soccer player in western Mass history, the Mutiny will officially retire her trademark number 6 at its next home game on Saturday, June 9th at 7:00pm versus the New York AC at Agawam High School. LeDuc was the only player in New England Mutiny history to ever wear the number 6.

"I just felt that it was time to pursue other interests in my life and to give the younger players the opportunity to compete at this level," said LeDuc.

LeDuc began her career starring for Longmeadow High School where she was an All-State selection in both lacrosse and soccer. She then went on to star for University of Massachusetts. In 1995, LeDuc set the all-time single season scoring record at the university with 18 goals and 10 assists for 46 points that year. LeDuc was a unanimous All-American selection that season and ranks 4th on the all-time scoring list for UMASS. As with the Mutiny, Rachel was also the all-time scoring leader for the Springfield Sirens women's soccer team which participated in the USISL from 1999-2002, being named All-league team in 2000.
