CHICOPEE – Former men’s soccer player Ben Masse has been tapped to take over the Elms College men’s soccer program in an announcement from the athletics department. Masse becomes the fourth head coach in program history.

“I'm extremely excited,” said Masse. “I've been involved with the program since 2006 as a player and then an assistant coach. This team has the potential to be one of the most successful teams in program history, and I look forward to helping guide them to their final goal.”

Elms College Director of Athletics Ellen McEwen said, “Having Ben step into his role as Head Men's Soccer Coach will do several positive things for the team and the athletic program. While maintaining the stability and success of the team, he will bring some new ideas to the table that will continue to move the program forward to keep Elms as a top contender in the region. I have a good deal of confidence in what he can do with the program, and I look forward to seeing the success he and the team will have in years to come.”

For the past two seasons, Masse served as Elms College men’s soccer assistant coach and helped lead the team to two conference finals and an NECC championship in 2013. Masse is a former player for Elms College and has coached numerous teams and academies throughout New England.

From 2010-2014 Masse coached at Chicopee High School. He also coached for the Western Mass Junior Pioneers from 2007 to 2012. Masse is currently an academy coach for the Amaral Soccer Academy and from 2007 to 2009 he was an academy coach at the NIKE Vogelsinger Soccer Academy.

As a college player at Elms, Masse was runner-up for the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year Award and was named All-Conference and All-Academic Conference. He also won the Monsignor Timothy J. Leary Award and the Iron Man Award in 2010. Masse was a three-year captain from 2007-2009 and led the team to three playoff appearances, including one NAC final.

Masse has obtained his US Soccer "E" License and NFHS & NSCAA Coaching License.

In 2010, Masse earned a bachelor's of arts degree from Elms in history with minors in coaching and Irish studies. In 2013, he earned his master’s degree in business administration from Elms.
