Mayotte returns to roots for exhibition

USTA New England and the Springfield Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a Tennis Block Party in Forest Park on June 16.

The event will feature Springfield's Tim Mayotte, a USTA New England Hall of Famer, Olympic medalist, NCAA champion and the former No. 7-ranked tennis player in the world.

In addition to the tennis festivities taking place, June 16 has been proclaimed "Tim Mayotte Day" in the City of Springfield by Mayor Charles Ryan.

"I'm very excited, as is my brother John and the family and friends of Forest Park and Springfield tennis," Tim Mayotte said of the event. "We're hoping that we'll have a great turnout and be able to raise some money for the Springfield tennis program. We're excited to be working with USTA New England and Western Mass. on promoting the game that has meant so much to our family. We treasure the opportunity to give back to a game that has given us so much opportunity."

Funds raised from the event will be used to support youth tennis programs in Springfield.

The day-long event begins at 9 a.m. and includes tennis drills and coaching, a chance to play tennis with Tim Mayotte, games, contests, a raffle and a Cardio Tennis exhibition.

At 1 p.m. Mayotte will take the court for a doubles exhibition. Admission is $5 per person and $10 per family.
