WNEC ranks 19th in men's lacrosse

SPRINGFIELD "Inside Lacrosse" magazine released Face-Off Yearbook's 2007 Division III men's lacrosse pre-season rankings and Western New England College is 19th in the poll.

The Golden Bears posted a 14-3 record last year and finished second in the Pilgrim League Tournament.

The magazine also listed four Western New England College players on its pre-season All-American Team.

Senior attack player Adam Cherry (Westfield) was a Second Team selection while junior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT), junior midfielder Brody Savoie (Wilbraham) and sophomore defenseman Jared Pabis (Wilbraham) all received an honorable mention.

Cherry led the team in scoring (69 points) last year and received an honorable mention the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-America Team. He also was selected to both the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division III Team and was the Pilgrim League Player-of-the-Year.

Body (6.36 goals-against-average) and Savoie (18 points) were named to the All-Pilgrim League First Team while Pabis was the Pilgrim League Rookie-of-the-Year.

Western New England College opens its season with a home game against Union (N.Y.) on March 3.

The Golden Bears also will visit defending NCAA Division III champion Cortland (N.Y.) on March 7.
