Morse helps Owls to MASCAC track and field crown

GORHAM, Maine – Colin Morse of Wilbraham, Mass., was part of the Westfield State University men’s indoor track and field 4 x 800 relay squad that defeated second place Bridgewater by nearly six seconds with a winning time of 8:24.34 as the Owls reclaimed the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship on Feb. 15, at the University of Southern Maine.
Wilbraham’s Jacob Clements finished fourth in the high jump.
Grippo takes fifth at NEISDA ChampionshipSOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. – James Grippo of Longmeadow, Mass., notched a time of 17:50.22 in the 1650-yard freestyle to finish fifth Elms College men’s swim team finished the 2013-14 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championship in fifth place out of 11 teams in the three-day event, which concluded on Feb. 16.
Andrew Pioggia of East Longmeadow, Mass., placed 29th in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 29.64.
Napolitan’s assist helps WNE get off the snideSPRINGFIELD – East Longmeadow’s Cam Napolitan earned an assist on the Western New England University (WNE) men’s hockey team’s first goal in a 3-1 win over Suffolk on Feb. 17 to snap a season-long six-game losing streak.
Welsh assists Blazers in win CAMBRIDGE – Elms College senior setter Kevin Welsh of Wilbraham dished out 27 assists to help the Blazers seal a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-17) sweep of Lesley University in a Feb. 17 men’s volleyball match.
Mickiewicz, WNE nipped at the buzzer BOSTON – Ryan Mickiewicz paced the WNE offense with 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds, but Wentworth scored the deciding basket as time expired, sending the Golden Bears to a 55-53 loss on Sept. 12.
Skiffington records double-double in lossHOLYOKE – Kayla Skiffington of East Longmeadow topped her team once again with 18 points and 11 rebounds, but the Bay Path College women’s basketball team fell 73-58 to Southern Vermont College on Feb. 12.
