Date: 6/25/2014

SPRINGFIELD – American International College (AIC) Executive Vice President for Athletics Richard Bedard has announced that Chrissy Needham is resigning as the college’s head field hockey coach. A national search to find her successor will begin immediately.

Needham has accepted the head coaching job at Division III Connecticut College. The Killingworth, Connecticut, native returns to her home state where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in education with a concentration in mathematics from the University of Connecticut in 2000 and began her coaching career at Greenwich High School.

“Chrissy Needham did a fine job for American International College and our student athletes over the two years she was with us. She has left our field hockey program in excellent shape and poised for continued improvement. We wish her well in her new coaching opportunity,” Bedard said.

Needham inherited a small roster in the 2012 season and improved the team’s record to 8-10 last year, her second with the team. She coached one All-American, five All-Conference members, and an NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Year in her time on the sidelines for AIC.

“I would like to thank Rich Bedard, President Maniaci and the AIC community for their support of me and of the field hockey program during my time in Springfield. The past two years have been full of positive growth for the program and I believe the future of AIC field hockey is bright,” Needham said.
