Pioneers’ winning streak snapped

Date: 7/2/2014

LUDLOW – The only drawback from a huge crowd and a beautiful summer night was seeing the Pioneers lose their first game of the season by a score of 3-1.

Their seven-game undefeated stretch came at the hands of their cross state rivals, the Real Boston Rams.

The Pioneers dominated some stretches of game play and outshot the Rams 17-6, but could not find the back of the net. A combination of a hot Boston goalkeeper, Nick Thomas, and staunch Rams defense stymied the Pioneers attack. The Boston defense was able to apply constant pressure to forward Alencar Junior, who was unable to score and add to his PDL league leading 13 goals.

The Pioneers only goal came from a beautiful free kick outside the box in the first half of play. The Rams equalized with a penalty kick to tie, and exploded for two goals in the second half to finalize a 3-1 Rams win.

“Boston played us tough when we won in Quincy. We had our chances tonight but could not finish. It’s tough losing at home, but we have to evaluate our strategies and prepare for a tough battle at Seacoast,” Pioneers head coach Federico Molinari said.

The Pioneers next home game is July 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Lusitano Stadium where they will take on the Seacoast United Phantoms. Also, July 9 is ERC5 Member Appreciation Night.
