Skaters compete in Worcester

Several members of the Little Sun Valley Skating Club participated at the Worcester Open Figure Skating Competition which was held March 31-April 2. The skaters competed while having a full school and extra-curricular schedule and practicing for the club annual ice show, this year titled "Clowning Around on Ice."

The skating competition was sponsored by the Skating Club of Worcester and held at the Charles A. Buffone Skating Rink in Worcester, Mass. and featured skaters from throughout New England.

LSV medalists coached by Kari Nunes of Ludlow included:

Chantal Savoie of Hampden who captured gold medals in both Compulsory 1 program and FS program 1.

Hampden's Kristen Reeves won the gold medal for Basic 5 compulsory moves and her sister Stephanie Reeves captured the silver medal for Compulsory 1 program.

Alyssa Goehlert of Springfield skated her way to the gold medal in Basic 4 compulsory moves.

Brianna Brennan of Holyoke won the gold medal for Basic 4 compulsory moves.

Sarah Varanka of Hampden won the silver medal as a first time competitor in her Freestyle program.

Wilbraham's Samantha Mariani jumped her way to a silver medal for her Compulsory 1 program and a bronze medal for FS program 1.

April Sheehan of Springfield also had several of her students capture medals. They included:

Jillian Goehlert of Springfield who won the silver medal for Basic 3 compulsory moves and a pewter medal for Freeskate program B.

Chicopee resident Sara Dymek won the silver medal for Basic 6 compulsory moves and the pewter medal for her Freeskate program C.

Juliette Zielinski of Ludlow is coached by Laura Kielb of Hampden. Zielinski skated her way to a bronze medal finish in Basic 3 compulsory moves.

The Intermediate Ladies Long Program bronze medalist was Longmeadow's Rebecca Pratt. She is coached by Vladimir Petrenko of Conn., former World Junior Men's gold medalist.

The Little Sun Valley Skating Club congratulates all club members who participated in the Worcester Open on their success.

The club invites all to our 2006 annual ice show "Clowning Around on Ice." This spectacular circus on ice will feature many skaters who have won medals at various competitions throughout the year and those who skate in our club sponsored US Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. Come and join us as we have fun and showcase the many talented skaters in our club. The event will be held at the Smead Arena at Blunt Park, Roosevelt Avenue, Springfield, on April 29 at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
