SPRINGFIELD – Springfield College head women’s basketball coach Naomi Graves, along with assistants Marc Taney and Jaimie Rubin, will spend two weeks in August spreading the goodwill of basketball through camps and clinics in Asia.
Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Frank Fu ‘73, the trio will put on a camp for the students of Hong Kong Baptist University, as well as for the Hong Kong community.
Graves and her staff will coach student-athletes from Hong Kong Baptist Aug. 10 to 14 before working with area school children from Aug. 17 to 21.
“This means everything to me,” Graves said.
“I've always wanted to do international coaching and to have this opportunity from Dr. Fu to go over and teach basketball in a camp format is so exciting. Representing Springfield College and to teach the game I love teach to Hong Kong University and the community is an incredible opportunity,” she continued.
After their time in Hong Kong, Graves will reconnect with Dr. Xingping Zhang at Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China.
Zhang was a former exchange coach who worked with Graves and the Springfield College women's basketball program in 2001.
Graves will present at the university of Aug. 24, a trip that was funded by The Folk Foundation.
“It is my hope that this is the beginning of a promising relationship,” said Graves. “I look forward to spreading the game of basketball and continuing Springfield College's work as an international ambassador for the sport.”
