Trebbe helps WNE women’s lax to best start in program history

SOUTH HADLEY – Wilbraham’s Shelby Trebbe netted two goals and assisted a third as the Western New England University (WNE) women’s lacrosse team built a large lead before hanging on to a 16-14 non-conference win over host Mount Holyoke College on March 11, to improve Golden Bears’s record to 5-0, the best start in the program's history.
Emily Castleman, also of Wilbraham, made seven saves and is one of the Commonwealth Coast Conference’s leaders in that category.
Nassar earns doubles victory for WNEKISSIMMEE, Fla. – PJ Nassar of Longmeadow was part of the winning WNE men’s tennis team’s third doubles pairing as the Golden Bears topped the University of Massachusetts Boston on March 17.
Nassar also earned a third doubles victory in a 6-3 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College on March 14.
Elms golf team places second at Myrtle Beach MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Tyler Cudnik of Hampden shot a 92 and the Elms College men’s golf team carded a combined score of 338 to place second in Myrtle Beach Shootout at Barefoot Golf Resort on March 13.
Blazers baseball caps Cusic Classic with pair of losses
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Geoff Frost of Ludlow and Hampden’s Brady Forrest each enjoyed strong days at the plate, but the Elms College baseball team was swept by Millikin University 14-3 and 8-2 on March 13, the Blazers’ final day at the Gene Cusic Classic.
Frost belted a solo home run while Forrest recorded three hits, including a pair of doubles and an RBI, in game one. Forrest was also 1 for 3 with a run scored in game two.
Brennan’s six goals pace AIC past Young HarrisHAINES CITY, Fla. – Wilbraham’s Riley Brennan tallied six goals, assisted another and had two draw controls as the American International College women’s lacrosse team handled Young Harris College 22-7 on March 12.
Deanna Fortin of East Longmeadow notched her first career point with an assist on a second-half goal.
Brennan also scored a team-high four goals in the Yellow Jackets’ 17-8 loss to Assumption College on March 15.
Gonyea’s two-RBI double helps Elms to victoryFORT MYERS, Fla. – A double to right center field off the bat of junior catcher Gianna Gonyea of East Longmeadow allowed two runs to come home, giving the Elms College softball team a 3-0 lead on its way to a 3-1 victory over the College of Wooster at the Gene Cusic Classic on March 12.
Gonyea was also 2 for 3 in a 7-1 loss to Nazareth College on March 11.
Dorsey’s three points not enough as Pride falls to TrinitySPRINGFIELD – Michelle Dorsey of Wilbraham recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in the Springfield College women’s lacrosse team’s 10-4 loss to No. 2 Trinity College on March 11.
