Vatrano scores first NHL goal against rival Montreal

BOSTON – East Longmeadow Frank Vatrano scored his first NHL goal in his first game with the Boston Bruins, a 4-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 7.

Vatrano, who had 10 goals in 10 games with Providence in the AHL, scored on his third shot of the game to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead at 8:51 in the second period.

Vatrano logged a total of 14:20 of ice time, including 53 seconds on the power play. He also recorded four hits and blocked two shots.

Vatrano also fired five shots on goal in 12 minutes of ice time in the Bruins’ 2-1 win over the Islanders in Brooklyn on Nov. 8.

Cloonan continues strong play for Terriers

BOSTON – Boston University men’s hockey left wing Ryan Cloonan of East Longmeadow registered a goal and an assist in the Terriers’ 5-4 win over Northeastern on Nov. 6.

Cloonan assisted the team’s first goal in the first period, then netted his own at 14:24 in the second period to give BU a 3-2 lead.

As of Nov. 11, Cloonan’s 8 points in eight games were tied for second on the team and fifth among freshmen in Hockey East.

Kelleher adds to Hockey East leading point total

EAST LANSING, MI – Tyler Kelleher recorded a goal and an assist, but the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team fell to Michigan State 7-4 on Nov. 7.

Kelleher’s goal, his fourth of the season, came on the power play and tied the game at 2-2 at 2:36 in the second period.

He also assisted a third-period goal to cut UNH’s deficit to 4-3 at 9:17.

As of Nov. 11, Kelleher is tied for the lead in Hockey East with 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists) in eight games. He is also third in the nation in points per game (1.88) and first in assists per game (1.38).

Orszulak records helper as AIC gets off the snide

SPRINGFIELD – Springfield native Austin Oszulak earned an assist on the game-tying goal early in the third period of the American International College men’s hockey team’s 3-2 win over Robert Morris on Nov. 6, the team’s first win of the year.

Orszulak is tied for second on the team with 8 points (3 goals, 5 assists), as of Nov. 11. He is also tied for ninth among American Hockey Association skaters.

His 5 assists are tied for first among Yellow Jackets.
