Wilbraham's Castleman makes IWLCA Honor Roll
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Western New England University (WNE) junior Emily Castleman of Wilbraham was tabbed to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic (IWLCA) Honor Roll for the 2014 campaign. She was one of 363 student-athletes honored across 126 NCAA Division III institutions.
Castleman, a goalie who majors in elementary education with a concentration in psychology, earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Second Team and Academic All-CCC accolades for the second straight season. This spring, she posted career highs in fewest goals-against average (9.29), save percentage (.449, 110 saves), victories (16), and winning percentage (.941, 16-1) to rank third, sixth, first and first in the CCC.
All told, the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll recognized 738 student-athletes from 162 different institutions across Divisions I, II and III. All student-athletes were nominated by their schools, achieved at least junior status academically and had a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or greater.
Earlier this month, Western New England was one of 125 Division III institutions out of a possible 255 NCAA teams to be named a 2014 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Squad. Teams with a composite GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2014 season are recognized for their scholastic achievements. The Royal Blue and Gold finished the academic year with a 3.12 team GPA, including 13 student-athletes with at least a 3.0. Four Golden Bears posted a 3.65 GPA or higher.
“I am proud of how the team did academically as each team member continually strives to achieve above a 3.0 in the classroom,” WNE head coach Aimee Klepacki said.
The Golden Bears completed another successful season on the field to go hand-in-hand with their accomplishments in the classroom last spring. Western New England had the first unbeaten regular-season in program history en route to setting a school record for winning percentage (.944; 17-1) and tying another for wins (17).
Klepacki repeated as CCC Coach of the Year.
