Williamson honored after becoming Bridgewater State’s all-time scoring leader

BUZZARDS BAY – Jenna Williamson, a guard for the Bridgewater State University women’s basketball team, was named Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week on Feb. 9.

The junior guard averaged 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals in a 2-0 week for the Bears, including 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals in a 65-52 win at Westfield State University. She capped off the week with 21 points, five rebounds, two assists and five steals in a 77-67 conference win over Framingham State as she became the all-time leading scorer for Bridgewater State.

Adamopoulos unstoppable off the bench for Pride

WORCESTER – Ava Adamopoulos of Ludlow was named Rookie of the Week by the New England Women’s Basketball Association after she was unstoppable against Clark University, scoring 26 points to lead the Springfield College women’s basketball team to a 63-41 win on Feb. 6.

The first-year came off the bench to finish with 26 points and 12 rebounds – both career-highs. She led an offensive attack that outscored Clark 42-16 in the paint and held huge advantages in points off of turnovers (16-6) and bench points (36-4).

Strohman wins pair of matches in quad meet

SPRINGFIELD – Jacob Strohman of East Longmeadow won two matches in the 140-pound weight class, pinning Trinity's Scott Gonzalez in 6:59 and earning a 7-5 decision over Plymouth State’s Fred Reisch as the Springfield College wrestling team earned wins over Plymouth State and Trinity before narrowly falling to Johnson & Wales in a quad meet on Feb. 8.

Ferrentino nets double-double to lead Yellow Jackets

SPRINGFIELD – Krista Ferrentino of East Longmeadow notched 16 and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the American International College women’s basketball team to a 65-49 win over Pace University on Feb. 8.

Ferrentino also had 14 points to pace the Yellow Jackets as they built a 15-point second half lead and then hung on for a 68-62 victory over Saint Rose on Feb. 6.

WNE falls to Nichols

SPRINGFIELD – Western New England University’s Musa Elsir of Springfield led all scorers with 16 points and East Longmeadow’s Ryan Mickiewicz just missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high nine rebounds to go along with five assists, but the Golden Bears men’s basketball team suffered an 80-64 loss at the hands of Nichols College on Feb. 8.
