Youth qualifies for Junior Olympics

Connor Perry of Longmeadow won a bronze medal in the 10-11 yr old flyweight division at the U.S. National Taekwondo Qualifier in Buffalo, New York May 20 and advanced to the World Class Division for the upcoming U.S. Junior Olympics in Taekwondo to be heldin Atlanta, GA July. Connor, a 10-year-old blackbelt who attends The Grammar School in Somersville, Conn., won a 5-3 match followed by a 7-0 match before narrowly missing the finals with a 6-5 defeat. He will represent the northeast U.S. at the 26th Annual Taekwondo JuniorOlympics in the Georgiadome.

This competitionwill bethe national championships in taekwondo and is run by USA Taekwondo, the governing body for olympic-style taekwondo in the United States and the organization which is responsible for the U.S.'s taekwondo athletes competing in Beijing, China in 2008.

All present and former olympic USA competitors have been molded through the U.S. Junior Olympic system. Connor trains at Athol Martial Arts Academy in Athol.
