Little Leaguers helping to strike out cancer

BOSTON Some remarkable boys and girls from the Springfield Little League are trying to take a swing at cancer, both on and off the field. As a part of the 2010 Jimmy Fund Little League Program presented by Trader Joe's, these children will be raising funds to support cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

This program provides Little Leaguers of New England with the opportunity to continue to play baseball/softball after the conclusion of their regular season by participating in local tournaments and fund raising efforts. These youngsters are given the opportunity to develop their athletic skills, build self-confidence and, most importantly, help others by fund raising in their local community.

Last summer, more than 5,000 children around New England took part and raised more than $275,000. This summer, young ballplayers will be back on the diamond working to improve their fund raising average and you can help.
