A Springfield native would like to get married and needs your help -- all it takes is just a click of your mouse.
Matthew House and his fianc e Liz Kelly, now living in Ohio, are among the couples vying to win the 2010 Waterfront Beach Resort Wedding Contest sponsored by the Orange County Register in California.
Financial problems brought on by health concerns have derailed the couple's plans.
"Liz and myself have been together for nearly 10 years (!), but due to an unfortunate health issue -- which led to money issues -- our special day has been harder to obtain than we deserve. I had been suffering with end-stage renal failure for a good (well, bad) two years, when Liz took it upon herself to save my life by donating her kidney to me," House wrote.
Their story is online on the Orange County Register's Web site, http://ocregister.upickem.net/engine/Details.aspx?p=V&c=23400&s=5756505&i=1.
House said the number of votes the couple has received places them at about sixth place. They currently have 938 votes with the top-place couple at 1,789.
He explained to Reminder Publications he and his fiancee need to get enough support by Nov. 29 to place them within the top five contestants in order to move on to second round of the contest. The winner from the top five will be selected by a group of judges.
"Our finances are null as we are happy just to have each other, but to have even the most basic of wedding has proven to be difficult to afford," he wrote. "Our connection is beyond that of most couples yet we still have found many road blocks keeping us from becoming man and wife, and if Liz deserved anything after her selfless act, it is to have the wedding of her dreams, which in turn would be my dream."
What House and Kelly could win is a beachfront wedding valued at over $150,000 at the resort in Huntington Beach, Calif. The winning entry will be announced Jan. 11, 2011 and the wedding is scheduled for March 27, 2011.
