SOUTHAMPTON A host of regional women authors will shed a spiritual light on their works during the inaugural Find Your Inspiration: A Spiritual Author's Book Fair on Nov. 17 at the Crystal Falls Wellness Center, 285 College Highway.
"This uplifting and enlightening event promises to offer something for everyone," Lori Szepelak, author of "An Angel on My Shoulder" and co-facilitator of the afternoon gathering, said. Szepelak's business is Wings and a Prayer Press, sponsor of the event.
LaMara Hunter, a writer for Total Eclipse magazine and co-facilitator, echoed those sentiments.
"We have a very diverse palette of gifted authors who will be sharing a piece of their inspiration and we're expecting a great turnout," Hunter said.
Szepelak and Hunter have brought together eight women authors who all bring a unique perspective to the spiritual realm through their writings.
Authors participating in the free event are: Crystal Senter Brown, Sharon W. Flynn, Ellen Evert Hopman, Maureen Kennedy, Susan Downing, Cie Simurro ~ Thunderbird Starwoman, Dr. Lucie Lewis and Szepelak.
Brown has been featured in Essence, Vibe and Redbook magazines for her poetry and work as a justice of the peace. She has published three books, "Gabby Saturday," "Doubledutch," and her most recent work, "The Rhythm in Blue," which soon will be a motion picture.
Flynn is the author of "Dance with the Brazen Moon," which celebrates Native American spirituality. The book is an exploration of their love of nature and their respect for the Creator of the Earth.
Hopman is the author of a trilogy of Celtic novels beginning with "Priestess of the Forest A Druid's Tale," that takes place in second to fifth century Ireland and Scotland.
She is also the author of a number of Celtic herbals including "A Druid's Herbal for the Sacred Earth Year," "A Druid's Herbal of Sacred Tree Medicine," and "Scottish Herbs and Fairy Lore." Her newest herbal is "The Secret Medicines of Your Kitchen," a primer on making home remedies from foods and spices in one's home.
Kennedy, who recently released a six CD audio version of her book, "The Path of Remembering: Who We Are and Why We're Here," guides whom she calls The Committee to speak about ways to live lives successfully and happily.
Downing, whose book, "The Heart of Reiki," teaches a unique practice framework based on Reiki training that can help one survive life's turmoil, invite ever-growing happiness into one's life, and share the joy with everyone.
Simurro is the author of "Totems for Stewards of the Earth, Volume 1" a compilation of original Totem articles published in Wisdom magazine. Each article is a combination of Simurro's personal experience with the totem itself, a transmission from the archetypal totem, the significance and characteristics of the totem, its natural history, and how to apply the totem's medicine in one's life.
Lewis, whose book "I AM: Renewal from Within the Garden," teaches lessons that soothed her "weary soul" as she shares a time of deep depression. She turned to the words of the Great I AM found in the Gospel of John to find her true center and now helps others find a model for crafting one's own path to a new beginning.
Szepelak's book explains how people can connect with those they've loved and lost, as well as connect with the guardian angels that surround them.
Jean Canosa Albano, manager of public services at the Springfield City Library, will serve as host for the afternoon gathering, introducing each author prior to their mini presentations. The talk by the authors is from 1 to 2 p.m. in Center Hall, followed by book signings and an opportunity to talk to the authors one-on-one in the loft area from 2 to 4 p.m.
The event will also be complemented by several practitioners from the Crystal Falls Wellness Center, including Kathi Munson, who will conduct angel readings; Marie Fleury, who will offer Reiki-Energy Work; Lisa Wilson, who will work with crystals and the angelic realm, and Leigh Russell, who will incorporate the use of his Be Well Healing Symbols, and his "Story-less" remote energy clearing method, to clear energy and create rapid changes in one's physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. A small fee will be charged by services provided by the practitioners, beginning at 2 p.m.
There is no charge to attend the event and all attendees will receive a goody bag while supplies last and a chance to win several raffle prizes donated by local businesses. Light refreshments will also be available throughout the afternoon.
