Agawam Lions Club to host annual Harvest Pancake Breakfast

Date: 11/7/2018

AGAWAM – The community has looked forward to the annual Agawam Lions Club Harvest Breakfast for over twenty years. This year, the club is excited to bring it back to the Big E Fairgrounds on Nov. 11.

The Harvest Breakfast aids the Agawam Lions Club in raising funds for the numerous activities and projects they conduct to support the community. All proceeds raised from admission to the Harvest Breakfast are utilized as donations and to fund initiatives through the Agawam Lions Club. Organizations that have received donations in the past from Agawam Lions Club include Shriner’s Hospital, the American Heart Association, Willie Ross School for the Deaf, the Boy and Girl Scouts and the local YMCA.

Richard Lanier, Club Secretary for the Agawam Lions Club, explained why this event is important for the club and the community. “It’s important to provide funding for these programs. What we do is necessary because the money we provide to organizations is counted on. When city officials see this effort, they are pleased with that and support the project.”

Guests will find Lanier behind the grill, cooking up pancakes the day of the event. He volunteers his time to this and other Agawam Lions Club initiatives. “I can be productive and support the community in this way. Everyone should give back to the community in some form,” he said.

Over ten gallons of pancake batter is donated by IHOP each year to make sure everyone is full at the event. While pancakes are the star of the show, milk and orange juice is donated by Hood and additional food is donated by McDonald’s restaurants.

In addition to breakfast, there will be raffle prizes offered. Raffles will include gift cards donated to the Agawam Lion’s Club by local businesses.

Lanier hopes to see a strong community presence at this year’s event and welcomes all to come and enjoy a meal.

The Lion’s Club is hoping to raise funds for an upcoming project that would help fund a breakfast and lunch program in Agawam. Partnering with Mayor William Sapelli, Bethany Assembly of God church and the Western Massachusetts Food Bank, the Agawam Lions Club has a goal of providing breakfast and lunch to school children during summer vacation from school.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the event or in advance from any Agawam Lions Club member. The event is from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Entrance to the event is from Gate 2 at the Big E Fairgrounds. Breakfast will be hosted at the Lion’s Den on the property.
