AGAWAM – You may know Christopher DiMauro through his podcast “The Art in the Game,” which covered the activities of MGM Springfield, but now the Agawam resident is increasing his podcasting activities by launching Art in the Game Media, a company that produces podcasts for businesses as well as help them grow a presence on YouTube.
DiMauro has also recently launched a new podcast on YouTube called “Pizza Fanatics” about pizza in New England. His most recent episode, co-hosted with his wife Lisa, featured a discussion about the pies at Modern Pizza and Sally’s Pizza in New Haven, CT.
DiMauro comes to podcasting with a wide professional background. He founded Springfield’s first digital 24-track recording studio, operated the Life at Harmony Café, worked in industry and real estate, as well as the cannabis business.
In 2018, with the opening of MGM Springfield, he started a podcast that he believed would call additional attention to the newly opened casino.
“I saw the need for information and community building,” he told Reminder Publishing. He wanted to give listeners ideas on how a visitor to the casino could “make the most of the experience.”
A Springfield native, he also wanted to counteract some of the negative perceptions some people have of the city.
His podcast accompanied a Facebook page, and he said that also helped create a community online.
The podcast was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, but people are still discovering it and getting value from it, he said. Podcasts, he maintained, have a shelf life. He has also added new episodes of the series, such as one earlier this year in which he discussed cashless gambling.
During the initial run of the podcast, DiMauro had a live event bringing a number of his listeners to the casino.
As a child, he listened to radio and saw the medium “as an intimate experience from the beginning.” He sees podcasting as an extension of that relationship with an audience and a powerful tool for businesses.
“They can attract new clients by speaking who they are,” he explained.
His new podcast about pizza came from an interest in uniting people.
“I was looking to bring people together – no politics,” he said. “What’s better than pizza?”
DiMauro said New England is “the heart of pizza greatness in North America” and said this is the only place to find a 32-36 slice oval pie.
“Springfield’s the home of it,” he asserted.
The pizza podcast also has a closed Facebook group, which DiMauro hopes people will join to talk about pizza.
