Agawam Public Library to host Holiday Movie Trivia Night

Date: 12/9/2020

AGAWAM – With the holiday season only a couple of weeks away, the Agawam Public Library is set to host a Holiday Movie Trivia Night on Dec. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event will take place using Kahoot, an online trivia platform, via Zoom.

According to Cher Collins, the adult services librarian at the Agawam Public Library, a mixture of classic holiday movies and more recent holiday movies will be covered throughout the trivia game.

“All the way back to ‘Miracle on 34th Street,’ and all the way up to ‘The Grinch,’” said Collins. “We are going try to cover a good portion.”

While Collins is not quite done with the official makeup of the trivia, she did say that there will be about 30 questions, and one round of gameplay. The library will share their screen to participants via Zoom, so everyone present can see what questions they have to answer, according to Collins.

Participants will have a secondary device – whether it be a smartphone or tablet – to share their answers through Kahoot.

“Kahoot keeps track of score … Kahoot keeps track of places and things like that, so it is really fun,” said Collins. “We did it once in August too.”

The August trivia game was part of the public library’s summer reading program, according to Collins.

And while they have not done a holiday-style trivia event yet, the August one garnered enough positive reception for the library to spearhead this trivia event coming up.

“With the holidays coming up, and everyone stuck at home watching movies, we thought, what better way to combine the two, and have a little fun with it,” said Collins.

The event, according to Collins, is primarily for adults, but she will not rule out the possibility of including children in a trivia event for the future.

“We are not going to get into any children’s movies,” said Collins. “But in the future, we might partner with children, and do a family trivia. I think that might be a fun thing to do.”

Part of December at the public library has involved a “Grab N’ Go” craft for adults, and part of that craft included an opportunity for adults to create their own ugly sweaters with materials provided by the library, according to Collins. If trivia participants created their own ugly sweater through this process, then they are being asked to wear them during the trivia event for fun.

“There will be prizes for the ugliest, and we will have prizes for first, second, and third [place],” said Collins.

Since Kahoot only allows a certain amount of people in per game, Collins asks everyone who would like to join the event to do so by signing up on the Agawam Public Library website. People need their name and email, according to Collins.

“2020 has been a hard year for everybody,” said Collins. “So we want to re-capture some of that holiday fun … I think having a good time and all being together will be good for everybody.”
