Agawam Public Library announces summer programs

AGAWAM The Agawam Public Library is offering many fun and exciting programs for families from Agawam and Feeding Hills.

Registration is required for all programs and may be made in person or by calling the Children's Department at 789-1550 ext. 4.

All children, from tots to teens, are invited to join the annual Summer Reading Program. New this year is a separate program for Tweens and Teens. The theme of the statewide program this year us Going Places at Your Library and is funded by the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems and the Agawam Center Library Association.

Any youngster who reads (or is read to) for 15 minutes a day receives a raffle ticket. In addition to library raffle tickets, children ages six and up, who read independently, will earn a ticket for the Bicycle Raffle, donated by Woronoco Charitable Foundation.

Each time books are checked out from the library, children will receive a small prize.

More information about this program is available at the library. Sign-ups begin on or after June 23.

The following are a series of programs that will take place at the library throughout the summer:

June 23 at 2 p.m. The Summer Reading Program will kick off with Bates and Tincknell performing "The Places You'll Go." The program is for children of all ages. Davis Bates and Roger Tincknell, Parents' Choice award winning performers offer a participatory concert including folktales, folk songs, family stories and more. The songs are accompanied by the Aztec rainstick, Inca flute, Russian balalaika and more.

June 29 at 2 p.m. Bubblemania, Casey Carle, award winning bubble artist, returns to perform an amazing bubble program loaded with comedy, audience participation and bubble manipulations. This program is for people ages five to 75.

July 6 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Going Places Crafts - Paper Airplane Workshop and Contest, Materials will be provided. This program is for children ages eight and up.

July 11 at 11 a.m. Teddy Bears' Picnic, Bring your favorite teddy bear to the library to the stories, songs, a craft, special snack and lots of fun. This program is for children ages three and up.

July 13 at 6:30 p.m. Teddy Bears' Picnic. Program is same as above.

July 21 at 2 p.m. Airnimations Balloon Art Show. An entertaining balloon art show. To music, Bruce creates unbelievable balloon creations, including cartoon characters and storybook characters. This program is for people of all ages.

July 27 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Summer Fun-Festival. The Agawam Library jr. volunteers offer a spectacular event with face painting, crafts, games, bubbles and food. This program is for children ages three and up.

August 3 at 10:30 a.m. Zoo on the Go ... Forest Park. Visit with live animals with up-close viewing. The program will cover such topics as adaptations, habitats, behavior, diets and status in the wild for a variety of animals from near and far.

On going programs throughout the summer include:

July 7, 14, 21, 28 and August 4 and 11 at 10:30 a.m. Family Story Time. A 30 minute storytime consisting of music, stories and a simple craft.

July 5, 12, 19, 26 and August 2 and 9 at 6:30 p.m. Evening Summer Storytime. A 30 minute evening storytime consisting of music, stories and a simple craft.

July 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 10 a.m. Terrific Toddler Summer Playgroup. Enjoy unstructured playtime with your toddler in the Children's Activity Room.
