AGAWAM — The 10th annual Faith on Fire Catholic Rally is to be held Aug. 25, rain or shine, at 6 p.m. on the grounds of Sacred Heart Parish, 1065 Springfield St., Feeding Hills.
The Hampden West Deanery and the Diocese of Springfield Catholic Charismatic Renewal will host the event.
Last year’s event saw over 1,000 attendees, not all of them Catholics.
“It’s open to anybody and everybody who wants to come,” said event organizer Deb Briancesco. “It has no age limit: families, children, elders. You don’t have to be Catholic. You don’t have to be Christian, you just need to be curious and want to come and join us. Please come and join us. It is open to everybody in the community.”
So just what is Catholic charismatic? “Google it,” said Briancesco. “You will be very much surprised as to how much fun Catholics can actually have at a service.”
The event features a variety of musical performances as well as guest speakers, both lay and clergy. It also includes a Eucharistic procession and adoration, prayer teams, and an opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation, also known as confession.
Bishop William Byrne, the Rev. Paul Norman and the Rev. Ryan Sliwa are this year’s featured speakers. Music will be performed by Jack Yourous and His Guitar, Psalm 33 with Tom Fucci, and St. Cecilia’s Youth Band from Wilbraham, with Carolee McGrath.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for comfortable seating. In the event of rain, the rally will move indoors. Food and beverages will be available to purchase, starting at 5:30 p.m.
