The celebration included the planting of a Swamp White Oak in honor of Massachusetts Tree Warden of the Year for 2020. To end the ceremony, Vieau read a proclamation declaring June 22 the 149th anniversary of Arbor Day. “In the City of Chicopee, I urge the citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands. Further, I urge our citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of the future generations of our city,” Vieau said.
Chicopee Tree Warden Chris Scott was named Massachusetts Tree Warden of the Year for 2020. Due to COVID-19, Scott was unable to receive his award in 2020.
