Bissonnette has formed an exploratory committee for possible mayoral run

Date: 5/14/2019

CHICOPEE – The mayoral race has been quiet of late but two announcements may reverse that trend.

City Council President John Vieau has announced he will host his campaign kick-off and meet and greet on May 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Portuguese American Club at 149 Exchange St. in Chicopee.

The press release read, “Everyone is welcome to attend this free event. Anyone who is interested in becoming involved in the campaign can go to www.facebook.com/vieauformayor or e-mail the campaign at Vieauformayor@gmail.com.”

Former Mayor Michael Bissonnette took another step to making a decision about whether or not he will seek another term as mayor on May 8.

He posted the following message on his Facebook page: “Exploratory Committee: I am extremely grateful for all the messages of support and encouragement not just for me running but for Chicopee’s future. Erin and I will take the rest of May to reach out to citizens and supporters, asking for their help in seeking a return to public service.

“We are allowed to accept campaign contributions and pledges of financial support to The Bissonnette Committee (99 Church St, Chicopee 01013) I am also asking for volunteers to help bring a message of experience and accomplishments to each neighborhood in our community. Everyone knows I love this city but at the same time I humbly acknowledge having made some personal mistakes in my own behavior that was wrong.

“I fully recognize the need for contrition and apology as I approach this campaign. However I also believe we were able to produce a number of extraordinary results for Chicopee thru teamwork, hard work and diligence.

“I still have a desire to make Chicopee work for everyone with strong municipal management, best practices and to keep taxes low while seeking new sources of revenues and grants.

“So let me hear from you – publicly or privately – with your comments, ideas, criticisms, suggestions and hopefully your support and a small contribution to help get this party started!”
