CHICOPEE – The proposed facility for Loophole Brewing in Chicopee at the Baskin property – part of the Facemate parcel – would be different than many other craft breweries in the region, according to Loophole co-founder Aaron Saunders.
The brewery, which will be located in the existing century-old brick building on the parcel, would also be a center for people to learn about craft beer brewing.
“It will be done in a concerted way to help people cultivate their craft and their brand,” Saunders explained to Reminder Publishing.
He believes it will be the only such program in the region.
The brewery will be part of the redevelopment of the parcel by Singing Bridge LLC, which has announced it will build an indoor sports facility on the site as well as an apartment complex.
In a written statement two of the developers stressed the importance of Loophole Brewing to the success of the project. “We wanted an exceptional brewery to join this project and that is what we got with Loophole,” said Singing Bridge partner Hammad Graham. Bill Stetson, a partner with Singing Bridge and owner of the Rumble Seat Bar & Grill, noted, “The quality of the brand and the quality of the beer was highest priority in finding the right brewery to join us. Loophole Brewing and their team are going to be a great addition to our project.”
“The Baskin Building provides a unique opportunity to produce at the scale to service the over 500 bars, restaurants, and package stores that carry Loophole, while providing a taproom setting that will offer small batch and experimental beers” Loophole co-founder Jeffrey Goulet said.
At this time Saunders explained Singing Bridge LLC is doing its “due diligence” for the development.
“Our piece is one part of a $40 million project, Saunders added, “We are excited to be on the front end of it.”
He said the training aspect of the brewery is in response to the investments that must be made to establish a craft brewery. Saunders explained it is a “incredibly capital intensive” operation.
Goulet, came up with the idea of having someplace to help train brewers after running the Worthy Beer Fest in Springfield, Saunders said. Although the idea is not new, it isn’t common to find such training programs.
Although Loophole ownership must wait until Singing bridge LLC acquires the necessary permits and approvals, Saunders believes the brewery could be open sometime during the first half of next year.
