CHICOPEE — The Chicopee Fire Department is growing with the addition of new firefighters and strengthening with the promotions of several existing personnel. To honor them, a ceremony took place in the City Hall Auditorium on July 31.
The newest firefighters include Hunter Davis, Joseph Martinez, Devin Cave, James Gay, Michal Wos, Patrick McQueen, Brady Williams, Kevin Waller and Brendan Fournier. “Each new hire brings a unique set of skills and unwavering dedication to their duties, promising a bright future for our city’s safety,” said Mayor John Vieau’s office.
William Boutin moved up the ranks to deputy chief and Thomas Canady and Daniel Sousa were promoted to captain.
In addition, John C. Jebb, Joshua Provost, Adam Anischik and Jorge Bracetty were promoted to the position of lieutenant.
“These promotions reflect the dedication, experience and commitment each of these individuals has shown in their service to our city. They will undoubtedly continue to uphold the Chicopee Fire Department’s mission of ensuring the safety and security of our residents,” said the Mayor’s Office.
They continued, “This momentous event serves as a testament to the resilience and unwavering dedication of our firefighters and the continued growth and commitment of the Chicopee Fire Department.”
As of July 31, Fire Chief Daniel Stamborski said the total number of firefighters in the department was 141 — just shy of full complement which is 144.
Stamborski shared that the promotions are filling in for several officers, most of whom have fulfilled obligations and have been on the job for more than 30 years. He noted that some are filling supervisory roles that are “critical” to fire operations.
Regarding the nine new hires, Stamborski said it is a “big push” to the full complement, which enhances overall safety and responsiveness.
“I genuinely appreciate the dedication of all men and women in the department,” Stamborski said.
He explained that to be promoted, an individual must take an exam, along with an assessment and interview which takes a bit of personal time. Stamborski noted that the firefighters have proven to score well. “I am very proud of all of them,” he said.
He thanked Vieau and the City Council for supporting the Fire Department.
