Chicopee raises flag for Mental Health Awareness Month

Date: 5/16/2023

CHICOPEE — In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, a flag raising ceremony took place outside of Chicopee City Hall on May 9.

The purpose of the flag raising is to bring awareness and show support for those struggling with mental health.

“Mental health challenges can impact anyone regardless of age, gender, race or socioeconomic status. However, there is still a stigma attached in discussing mental health issues openly. This stigma often prevents people from seeking the help they need and deserve,” said Mayor John Vieau.

He continued, “Mental Health Awareness month is a time to break down these barriers and encourage conversation about mental health. [It is] time to educate ourselves and [the] community about signs and symptoms of mental health and how to seek out necessary resources.”
