CHICOPEE — The Chicopee School Committee met on Oct. 4 to discuss several items, including a recent personnel report.
Human Resources Director Deborah Green shared the personnel report that covers the period from Sept. 13-27, which includes 21 total new hires — eight of which are teachers and eight are paraprofessionals.
She said Chicopee Public Schools still has a “smaller number” attending orientation each week, however, the district is scaling back to one orientation each week as the hiring season is slowing down.
Green went on to say that there are still about 90 postings up on SchoolSpring — 26 of those being teachers and 25 paraprofessionals.
The district is also in the process of conducting an audit of the SchoolSpring postings to make sure they are up to date.
Anna E. Barry Elementary School
Mayor John Vieau provided an update on the Anna E. Barry Elementary School legacy project, which is currently in the eligibility phase. According to the Massachusetts School Building Authority, “The eligibility period assists the MSBA with managing its financial resources by identifying early in the process whether a district is ready to manage and fund a capital project.” It also helps determine a district’s financial and community readiness, provides a definitive schedule and identifies planning and budget needs.
Vieau thanked Chicopee Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Marcus Ware, Barry Principal Kate Lambert and staff for completing the MSBA required enrollment certification.
He also thanked Maintenance Director Scott Chapdelaine and his staff who completed the maintenance and capital planning report required by the MSBA.
Vieau explained that the local vote authorization and the feasibility study requirements are the only steps remaining to complete the eligibility phase. With the MSBA approval, the project can then move into the feasibility phase.
Vieau thanked everyone for their hard work and effort in keeping this project on the timeline as it continues to make progress and look forward to the next phase.
