CHICOPEE – Dr. Ahmed Elmogy believes that an urgent care center is a concept whose time has come for a city the size of Chicopee.

Elmogy opened his new Chicopee Urgent Care Center on Dec. 30 at 1505 Memorial Drive.

Elmogy, trained in the Emergency Medicine residency program at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City, N.Y., is board certified in American Board of Emergency Medicine. He has 12 years experience in emergency medicine and has been practicing at Holyoke medical center.

He told Reminder Publications his inspiration for opening the urgent care center is from seeing patients without a life-threatening condition wait too long and pay too much at an emergency room.

“My biggest dream has been to open an urgent care center,” he said.

Elmogy added an urgent care center allows patients to see a doctor and receive treatment on their lunch hour.

The center will have two physicians and seven staff members. The facility has eight exam rooms; x-ray machines and can perform blood and urine testing on site.

Elmogy said the new business would be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. If there were a greater demand for services, he would consider extending the hours.
