Chief Jebb is improving after motorcycle accident

Date: 7/26/2018

CHICOPEE –Although rumors were flying around the city concerning the motorcycle accident involving Police Chief William Jebb, city officials said Jebb is recovering well.

Officer Michael Wilk, the public information officer for the Police Department, told The Reminder, “He is recovering and getting better every day.”

Wilk discounted reports about the severities of Jebb’s injuries, as “those are rumors.”

Wilk added, “He’s very stable.”

Jebb was involved in an accident near the I-391 exit ramp on Grattan Street at about 10:35 p.m. on July 19. No other vehicles were involved.

Mayor Richard Kos released a statement on July 24: “I’ve visited with Chief Jebb and his family, he is in good spirits and his condition is improving each day. I would like to thank the community for their overwhelming support for Chief Jebb during his recovery. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

There has been no information on when Jebb will return to duty. Wilk said, “Deputy Chief Sullivan is in temporary command. No replacement needed. Jebb will be back.”

Wilk also had no information on when the investigation the Massachusetts State Police is conducting about the accident will be concluded. Because a member of the Chicopee department was involved in an accident, the investigation was turned over to the State Police.
