DPW head terminated, city to seek new superintendent

Date: 7/5/2018

CHICOPEE  – The Superintendent of the Department of Public Works (DPW) did not have his contract renewed, effectively terminating his employment on June 30.

Former Mayor Michael Bissonnette originally appointed Jeffrey Neece to the position. Neece had replaced long-time DPW head Stan Kulig in 2013. A Chicopee native, Neece had been the director of Public Works in Southwick prior to coming to the city.

The Kos Administration issued the following statement: “The five year contract with Jeffery Neece as Chicopee DPW Superintendent expires on June 30, 2018 and has not been renewed or extended. Elizabette Botelho, City Engineer, is being appointed as Acting DPW Superintendent. Jeffery was not escorted from the building or the property by police.”

Mayor Richard Kos said, “I look at this as an opportunity to explore ways to improve operations. The posting and advertising of the position of DPW Superintendent will be done forthwith. We are fortunate to have a City Engineer, Elizabette Botelho, who is able to step in as Acting Superintendent.”

Reminder Publications contacted Neece for comment, but did not hear from him at presstime.
