CHICOPEE – Recognized as a restaurant staple in the Chicopee Falls area since 1962, Falls Pizza celebrated the grand opening of their new 185 Grove St. location during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 24.
Owner Ridvan Turan and his family acquired Falls Pizza in 2004 after moving from Turkey. Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce Julie Copoulos, Mayor John Vieau, City Council President and At-Large member Frank Laflamme, City Council Vice-President and At-Large member Robert Zygarowski and Ward 4 Councilor George Balakier gathered to initiate the grand opening of Falls Pizza’s relocation.
The renovated restaurant, which opened on Jan. 18 for take-out and delivery orders only, offers a new dine-in component to Falls Pizza.
The space includes two flat-screen televisions, a fully stocked bar and ample seating options while also keeping the restaurant’s take-out business in effect, according to Turan.
During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Copoulos described Falls Pizza’s growth as “really special,” with the chamber director working alongside Turan in the businesses’ expansion. “Being here is a really magical moment because it’s been a long road…this is an amazing moment where we can all celebrate,” said Copoulos.
Vieau utilized his address to reflect on the “enterprise” Falls Pizza created within Chicopee. “Falls Pizza has created an enterprise of a business…I wish them many years of prosperity and success,” said Vieau. The mayor also credited Turan and company for completing renovations despite dealing with the ramifications of the pandemic.
In an interview with Reminder Publishing, Turan discussed Falls Pizza’s recipe for a successful relocation. “It was tough at times [with the pandemic], everything was either limited or on backorder,” said Turan, who shared that the business waited up to six months for certain fixtures to become available due to a truncated supply chain.
Despite the challenges, Turan shared his excitement with the new location’s potential. “This is going to be different than a normal bar…we want to create a fancy spot that’s good to hang-out in,” said Turan. The owner also explained why the Grove Street location appealed to Falls Pizza, citing the proximity to the restaurant’s former location, an increase in parking availability and other nearby business developments as key motivating factors.
