CHICOPEE - The Polish community gathered on Dec. 12 to celebrate a mural dedication in honor of Father Lucjan Krolikwoski. Along with being a core member of the community for a decade, Krolikowski is most remembered for shepherding 150 orphans to freedom in the 1940s after they were set to return to communist-controlled Poland.
Prideful community members, Mayor John Vieau and City Councilors Robert Zygarowski and William Courchesne were in attendance to celebrate the reveal of artist Rafal Pisarczyk’s poignant dedication to Krolikowski’s heroism. In his speech, Vieau reflected on the hope, trust and faith that Krolikowski represented in the community. “We couldn’t be more thankful to have this dedication here in Chicopee,” said Vieau. Readers can discover the mural at 27 Grove St. near the Polish National Credit Union.
