CHICOPEE – The Chamber of Commerce is partnering once again with downtown businesses to present a second edition of “Lights On Art and Culture” on Feb. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Susan Williams, one of the organizers of the event, explained to Reminder Publishing the event will help with the city’s application for a grant from MassDevelopment, as well as calling attention to the downtown area.
Other sponsors include the Chicopee Cultural Council, the Planning Department and Mass Development.
Participating businesses will host artists and entertainers but the time of the event is now stretched over two days and three of the buildings downtown – Lyman Mills, Old City Library and SilverBrick Mills – will be lit with blue light that should be seen from Interstate 391.
The number of participating businesses has grown from 10 to 20 businesses, Williams added.
Williams said there would be a breakfast served for 100 people on Feb. 23 in front of the former library building. Also on Saturday there will be the Book Mobile and Elms College Nursing Van set up in the Westfield Bank Training Center lot.
SilverBrick Mills will be open during the evening session to provide tours of the former Cabotville Industrial complex and the company’s plans to redevelop the former factory into apartments.
The Chicopee Historical Society has announced it is rescheduling its upcoming event celebrating Chicopee’s industrial past to Feb. 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cabotville Industrial complex and also Saturday morning, Feb. 23 as part of “The Lights on Arts and Culture” and Doors Open event at the Cabotville Mills.
Members of the Historical Society will have a designated table at the Cabotville Mills for a presentation of historical photos, information, and an opportunity to speak with members. The PVTA will be providing free shuttle rides from Munich Haus to that Mill.
Maps of the participating businesses with a list of the artists involved will be available at the Chamber of Commerce offices on Exchange Street.
