CHICOPEE – Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen & Pantry is currently seeking volunteers to help with a variety of tasks.
According to Executive Director Ruben Reyes, Lorraine’s needs volunteers to help stock, organize and distribute the pantry items. They are also looking for individuals who would like to set up a cooking team or those who would be willing to come into the soup kitchen and cook with other volunteers.
Reyes said that Lorraine’s will accept volunteers who are at least 13-years-old. They are seeking help Monday through Friday.
“We’re very understaffed and we don’t have a lot of hands during the whole week,” said Reyes.
In November 2020, Reyes spoke to Reminder Publishing about the increased need Lorraine’s had seen from the coronavirus pandemic.
“Lately, we’ve seen families who would not normally come through our doors. We’ve noticed a steady increase in families who are looking for meals,” said Reyes.
Reyes said that Lorraine’s was feeding 13 percent of Chicopee residents annually, or 600 families per month.
Lorraine’s is now looking for volunteers who can commit any time between 10 a.m and 2 p.m or 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. For those interested in volunteering, please reach out to Lorraine’s at 592-9528 or go to their website here: https://lorrainessoupkitchen.com/volunteer/.
Those unable to donate time to Lorraine’s are also able to donate money, food or supplies. Monetary donations can be made on Lorraine’s website at https://lorrainessoupkitchen.com/. Food donations can be brought to 170 Pendexter Ave.
“Right now, any shelf stable items would be beneficial for us,” said Reyes.
