Date: 5/5/2021

CHICOPEE – The City of Chicopee opened the COVID-19 vaccination site at the Castle of Knights on April 29.

The site will be open, by appointment only, Wednesday through Friday. There will be an expected 800 doses of the Moderna vaccine available each day. The new site was created through a collaboration between Chicopee, South Hadley, Granby and Holyoke.

On opening day, Mayor John Vieau, Hampden County Sheriff Nicholas Cocchi, Holyoke interim Mayor Terry Murphy, South Hadley Town Administrator Michael Sullivan, city councilors, elected officials, Chicopee Fire Chief Daniel Stamborski, Chicopee Health Director Lisa Sanders, South Hadley Emergency Management Director and Health Director Sharon Hart and the Chicopee COVID Vaccine Task Force Team came together for a press conference.

Many officials in attendance expressed their gratitude and immense support for the Castle of Knights vaccination site. They welcomed the opportunity to help members of the community continue the fight against COVID-19  and urged residents to get vaccinated.

“I think the message is loud and clear: Vaccines are available. Please get your appointment. There’s so many different locations now in the City of Chicopee. I couldn’t be more proud of the efforts put forward by the Vaccine Task Force and today’s a great day. It’s a great day for the city, it’s a great day for Western Mass., it’s a great day for the state and for the commonwealth,” said Vieau.
