CHICOPEE – About 500 people gathered at the Chicopee Comprehensive football field on July 8 to honor the memory of Comp student Alex Ortiz who died on July 7 in a car accident in Wilbraham.
Members of his family were seated on the edge of the field and were greeted by a steady stream of students and well-wishers.
Dozens of students were wearing black t-shirts with his photo on front and the phrase “Best teammate. Best Brother. Best Friend” on the back.
Comp Vice Principal Joe Morrisette told Reminder Publishing, “Alex was the kind of young man we all hope our kids grow up to be: kind, thoughtful, genuine and humble. During his short time here on this earth, his impact on those he interacted with was immeasurable, as shown by the great outpouring of support last night. He will be greatly missed.”
