CHICOPEE — Frank J. Szot Park is in need of updates and in order to make those necessary changes, Chicopee residents are being asked to partake in a master plan survey.
The city partnered with Ray Dunetz Landscape Architecture to launch a project to develop a master plan — a comprehensive and long-range strategy — for the improvement and maintenance of Szot Park.
RDLA and the city began this project in July, with a review session and site walk.
The master plan will identify community needs and priorities for parks, while outlining a strategy for meeting those needs.
According to RDLA, “This will provide the city a road map for future design and construction projects that will take place over many years, depending on funding.”
While some improvements have been made to the park over time, it has been decades since a comprehensive master plan was developed.
Features in need of repair or replacement include the stadium, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, sidewalks and walkways, to name a few.
The final master plan report will be completed in early 2024.
