VaxBus makes stop in Chicopee and other Western Massachusetts cities

Date: 7/27/2021

CHICOPEE – The Baker-Polito Administration recently announced additional COVID-19 vaccination opportunities across the state via the VaxBus. The VaxBus is a mobile vaccination unit that travels to different municipalities in Massachusetts to help areas with lower vaccination rates have access to the COVID-19 vaccine. On July 19, the VaxBus visited Chicopee at both Lucy Wisniowski Memorial Park and J. Polep Distribution.

The VaxBus is easily accessible to those without transportation and walk-ups are welcome. The bus is ADA-accessible, and both the Pfizer vaccine and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine are available. The bus will return to Chicopee at a later date to provide the second dose of the Pfzier vaccine.

After the VaxBus’s Chicopee stop, it continued on to Springfield and West Springfield before heading toward Central Massachusetts and back to the Boston area.

According to a press release, the VaxBus initiative aims to “work with populations and communities to reduce barriers to COVID-19 vaccination, increase awareness of the vaccine’s safety and efficacy, and ultimately, increase vaccinations.”

Mayor John Vieau commented on the VaxBus stopping in Chicopee and the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations.

“Together, we continue to provide creative ways for residents to get their COVID-19 vaccines. Our goal is to utilize resources like the Mass Vax Bus to help reach individuals who are challenged in trying to find access. We urge everyone if you haven’t done so already, to get vaccinated. This is the best way for you to protect yourself and loved ones against the virus and any of its variants,” Vieau said in a statement to Reminder Publishing.
