GREATER SPRINGFIELD For anyone who loves oldies – and is still undecided how to spend New Year’s Eve the New England Doowop Society has the show for you!
The sixth annual Rockin’ New Year's Eve Party is planned Dec. 31 at the Holiday Inn, 1 Bright Meadow Blvd., Enfield, Conn., hosted by Gary Jones of Chicopee and Bob Belniak of Agawam, co-founders of the New England Doowop Society, based in Western Massachusetts.
The Sharades are the featured act, providing songs from the 1950’s and 1960’s throughout the evening, according to Jones during an interview with Reminder Publications.
“The Sharades are a high energy oldies dance band and they enjoy what they do,” Jones said. “We have featured the Sharades at a couple of our big shows and they are real crowd pleasers.”
Jones also noted that the Sharades have a “couple of surprises” in their act.
Tony Mitrook, a.k.a. Tunes by Tony, will be the disc jockey for the evening, spinning tunes during breaks so attendees will have non-stop entertainment all evening.
“Tony has a great sound system and a very good library of music,” Jones added.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and attendees will be treated to a dinner buffet that includes rolls, salad, chicken and beef entrees, garlic mashed potatoes, vegetable medley, an elaborate dessert menu, fresh fruit and cheese and crackers. An express continental breakfast will also be served at 12:30 a.m., featuring an assortment of pastries, muffins, coffee and select teas.
“The Holiday Inn is a wonderful facility to spend the evening and unwind after dancing the night away,” Jones said.
Jones acknowledged that he especially enjoys the New Year’s Eve party because “we have seen many friendships grow over the years.”
Tickets for the reserved seating event are $99 per couple and includes dinner, dancing, champagne toast at midnight, party favors and complimentary breakfast. Contests and prizes will also be featured throughout the evening. For persons staying at the Holiday Inn, reservations can be made separately to (860) 394-2775.
