Boston Magazine names locals to list of 'SuperLawyers'

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield-based regional law firm of Bacon Wilson P.C. is pleased to announce that eight of their attorneys have been distinguished as New England "SuperLawyers" and five of their attorneys have been distinguished as "Rising Stars" in the November 2009 issue of Boston Magazine. Determined by the results of more than 63,000 ballots distributed to lawyers in New England, only five percent of New England's lawyers were honored as SuperLawyers. They were identified for their background, experience, professional achievement and peer recognition. The Rising Stars are under 40 years old or have been practicing law for less than 10 years. Less than 2.5 percent of New England lawyers were named 2009 Rising Stars. The following Bacon Wilson attorneys were honored:
SuperLawyers Attorney Paul R. Salvage is the co-chair of the firm's Insolvency Department. His practice deals with sophisticated workout and bankruptcy matters, representing both creditors and individuals or companies facing financial difficulties. His additional specialties include creditor's rights, business/corporate and real estate. He has served on the First Circuit Court of Appeals Bankruptcy Judge Merit Selection Panel and is a frequent lecturer before various bar association groups on the areas of reorganization and creditor/debtor rights. He is a former chair and member of the town of Longmeadow Appropriations Committee. Salvage is a member of the executive committee and former chairman of the board of Jewish Geriatric Services Inc.
Attorney Gary L. Fialky is chair of the firm's Corporate Department. His practice is concentrated in business and banking law, with an emphasis on business formations, mergers and acquisitions. Additional specialties include health care, trusts and estates and real estate. Fialky is the founder and co-chair of the Omar T. Pace Recognition Dinner for the Western Massachusetts Region of the American Cancer Society. He is also a past president of the board of directors of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and he currently serves on the board of trustees of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Attorney Michael B. Katz is co-chair of the firm's Bankruptcy Department. His practice is concentrated in business and insolvency law, and he has played a significant role in numerous successful reorganization cases. He also handles sophisticated healthcare law matters, and is general counsel to many businesses including medical practices and individual physicians. His additional specialties include creditor's rights, commercial and corporate law. Katz is an officer of the United Way of Pioneer Valley and serves on the board and chaired the Capital Campaign for 2007. He is also a past president and current member of the board of directors of the Jimmy Fund Council of Western Massachusetts, and he serves on the Jimmy Fund Advisory Committee for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Attorney Paul H. Rothschild is chair of the firm's Litigation Department. His practice is concentrated in general litigation, as well as personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice and employer/employee disputes. He also represents a number of employers in general business and higher education, providing advice on issues relating to termination, discrimination and avoidance of disputes. Rothschild is the immediate past president of the Hampden County Bar Association, and a member of its board of directors, and former president of the Springfield Jewish Community Center and member of its board of directors.
Attorney Stephen N. Krevalin is presently serving as the firm's Managing Partner. His areas of expertise include general business matters, real estate, domestic relations, and he has extensive experience in the area of shopping center/mall representation. Krevalin is a past chair of the board of Jewish Geriatric Services and past president of Congregation Kodimoh.
Attorney Hyman G. Darling is chair of the Estate Planning and Elder Law Departments, and he is recognized as the area's preeminent estate planner. His areas of expertise include all areas of estate planning, probate and elder law. Darling is past president of the Hampden County Estate Planning Council and also a Certified Elder Law Attorney. In addition, he is a past president of the Hampden County Bar Association, he teaches law at Bay Path College, and is an adjunct professor at Western New England College School of Law - LLM program, teaching Elder Law. He serves on the boards of many charitable entities, including the National Planned Giving Committee of the American Cancer Society and as chair of the Baystate Health Systems Professional Advisors Committee. He is a frequent lecturer on various estate planning and elder law topics at both the local and national levels.
Attorney Francis R. Mirkin's areas of practice include commercial and residential real estate and general business matters, as well as consistent involvement in commercial loan documentation, representing numerous area financial lending institutions and businesses. In addition, he handles zoning and subdivision issues, as well as commercial and banking law. Mirkin is a member of the MA Real Estate Bar Association and the Hampden County Real Estate Bar Association, a former president of the board of directors of the Western Massachusetts Division, American Heart Association and a current member of the executive committee of the Baystate Children's Hospital Golf Tournament. He is also an annual volunteer for Rays of Hope.
Attorney Stephen B. Monsein is a member of the domestic relations and litigation departments. His work is primarily concentrated on divorce cases, but he also handles personal injury cases and does a significant amount OUI defense work each year.
Rising Stars Attorney Justin H. Dion focuses on insolvency, business and financial matters. In addition to handling Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcies, he also does financial planning, conducts foreclosures and handles collection matters for lenders, as well as practicing non-profit and real estate law. He is on the board of directors of Square One and the Longmeadow Educational Excellence Foundation, as well as a regular participant in the Massachusetts Bar Association Western New England School of Law Dial-A-Lawyer program. Dion teaches extensive law classes at Bay Path College and Western New England College School of Law, and is the author of several bankruptcy articles and has been published in the prestigious American Bankruptcy Institute and Western New England College Law Review.
Attorney Adam J. Basch is a member of the Litigation Department whose areas of practice include construction litigation, personal injury, general litigation and commercial litigation. He is the former secretary of the Hampden County Bar Association and serves as a member of the Wilbraham Planning Board and the United Way Allocation Committee. He is the author of numerous construction and general litigation articles.
Attorney Todd C. Ratner is a member of the Estate Planning/Elder Law Department whose practice includes sophisticated estate planning issues. Additional areas of practice include commercial and residential real estate together with general business and corporate law. Ratner serves on the board of Jewish Family Services of Western Massachusetts, is a graduate from the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Great Springfield Inc.'s Leadership Institute 2007 and he teaches Elder Law at American International College. He is a frequent lecturer and he has written numerous business, estate planning and real estate articles.
Attorney Mark A. Tanner concentrates his practice in plaintiff's personal injury, civil litigation and land use and zoning. Tanner effectively represents clients in Massachusetts and New York and has successfully argued before the Supreme Judicial Court and other appellate Courts in the Commonwealth. He is a past president of the Hampshire County Bar Association and was named one of BusinessWest's 40 under 40 in 2007. He is active in the Hampshire County community serving on the board of directors of the Hampshire County Bar Association, Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA) and the Peoples Institute.
Attorney Kevin V. Maltby concentrates his practice in the area of litigation and employment law. He is a former prosecutor for the Northwestern District Attorney's Office with extensive jury trial and court room experience. He also handles personal injury, family law and criminal defense cases. Maltby is an adjunct faculty member Bay Path College in the Legal Studies Department where he teaches litigation and advanced litigation. He has written numerous articles about employment law and social media policy in the workplace.
