Freedom Credit Union prepares to celebrate 90th anniversary

Date: 7/17/2012

SPRINGFIELD — Freedom Credit Union is about to turn 90! During the month of July, the credit union has planned several ways to celebrate its achievement, one of which is to give away a Bermuda cruise for two. Anyone 21 or older can enter the contest by going to one of Freedom's eight branches between now and July 18. In addition, Freedom is offering a commemorative 90-day certificate (CD) at 0.90 percent Annual Percentage Yield, as of July 2.

On July 20, the actual Anniversary date, Freedom is planning a Member Appreciation Day at each of its eight branches. Every person going to the branches on the 20th will receive cake and a free votive candle from Yankee Candle. Also, the lucky winner of the cruise contest will be announced.

"For 90 years, we have recognized our members' loyalty by offering the highest possible returns on their deposit accounts, while also providing highly competitive rates on all our loan products," Barry F. Crosby, president and CEO of Freedom, said. "Freedom will continue this commitment in the years to come because our members are the primary reason for our success," he adds.

The credit union was founded in 1922 by seven directors and one employee as the Western Mass Telephone Workers Credit Union. In 2004, the credit union changed its name to Freedom Credit Union. Since that day of incorporation, the credit union has grown substantially. Assets now exceed $500 million and over 100 employees are staffed in eight branches throughout the Pioneer Valley — downtown Springfield, Sixteen Acres, Chicopee, Feeding Hills, Northampton, Easthampton, Greenfield, and Turners Falls. Freedom will be opening its ninth branch in Ludlow this September.

For the CD promotion, there is a $500 minimum to open a CD account. This promotion is subject to end without notice and other terms and conditions may apply. See a Freedom branch for more details. Freedom Credit Union is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Shares and deposits in excess of NCUA limits are fully insured by the Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corporation. Freedom is an Equal Housing Lender.
