Freyman named Woman of the Year by Professional Women's Chamber

SPRINGFIELD — Shatz, Schwartz and Fentin, P.C. is proud to announce that Ellen W. Freyman, shareholder, has been named the 2012 Woman of the Year by the Professional Women's Chamber, a division of The Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield Inc.

This prestigious honor has, since 1954, been awarded annually to women in the Greater Springfield area who exemplify outstanding leadership, professional accomplishment, and service to the community.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Springfield Sheraton Hotel, 1 Monarch Place, on June 7 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Freyman, a resident of Longmeadow, concentrates her practice in all aspects of commercial real estate, including acquisitions and sales, development, leasing and financing. She has an extensive land use practice that includes zoning, subdivision, project permitting, and environmental matters.

She has given her talent, advice, and untold hours to numerous nonprofit and civic organizations in the Valley, serving as a member of numerous boards and committees. She currently serves as a trustee for Elms College, and as a board member of the Dunbar Community Center, the National Conference for Community and Justice, the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Affiliated Chamber of Commerce of Greater Springfield and the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the Springfield Jewish Federation, the Springfield Technical Community College Foundation (STCC) and the STCC Assistance Corporation, as well as on the Community Music School of Springfield, the World Affairs Council, and the Longmeadow Zoning Board of Appeals.

Freyman's committee and advisory work includes positions on the Springfield Business Leaders for Education, New England Public Radio and the Springfield Museum Association.

She is also the founder and President of On Board Inc., president of the Mason-Wright Foundation, and a past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Springfield Rotary Club.

Among her many awards are the 2010 Business West Difference Makers Award, 2010 Reminder Publications Hometown Hero Award, 2011 Springfield Leadership Institute Community Service Award and Lawyers Weekly's Top Women of Law Award in 2011.
